When the fall season transitions into winter, I find myself experimenting with apple cider in the kitchen. There are a bunch of fun drink recipes that incorporate apple cider, for use in both warm and cold drinks.

Ingredients

  • 3 cinnamon sticks
  • 64 oz fresh apple cider, reduced down on the stove to 32oz
  • 16 oz whiskey or bourbon of choice
  • 4 oz simple syrup
  • 4 oz freshly-squeezed orange juice
  • 3 oz freshly-squeezed lime juice
  • 16 oz club soda
  • 1 fresh apple, peeled & diced into ¼” cubes, as garnish
  • Tiny sprinkle of fresh nutmeg, as garnish

Instructions 

  • Reduce 64oz of freshly-squeezed apple cider down to 32oz on the stove with 3 cinnamon sticks.
  • When the cider has reduced down to 32oz, remove the apple cider from the heat and discard the cinnamon sticks.
  • Chill down the reduced apple cider in the fridge until it is cold.
  • When the reduced apple cider mixture is fully cooled, combine it with 16oz of your favorite whiskey or bourbon of choice, plus the 4oz simple syrup, 4oz freshly-squeezed orange juice, 3oz freshly-squeezed lime juice, and 16oz club soda.
  • Stir to combine.
  • Pour into glasses over ice.
  • Garnish each glass with a few cubes of diced fresh apple and a sprinkle of nutmeg.

Notes

You can make this base mixture in advance of a party without the club soda. When whenever your guests arrive, add the club soda and serve the punch over ice with the apple and nutmeg garnishes.
To make your own simple syrup, combine 1 cup of white granulated sugar with 1 cup of water, and heat the mixture over the stove until the sugar has fully dissolved in the water. When the sugar is completely dissolved in the water, turn off the heat and allow the mixture to cool down until you are ready to use it.
