Kentucky-Style Black BBQ Sauce

This delicious BBQ sauce variation gets its name from the large quantity of Worcestershire sauce that is included in the recipe. The sauce is quite thin, similar to some North Carolina-style BBQ sauces. It is delicious when served with a wide variety of grilled and smoked meats, and is often seen served with lamb.

Ingredients

  • ½ cup Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ cup distilled white vinegar
  • 1.5 cups water
  • Juice from ½ lemon
  • 1 tsp Tabasco sauce
  • ½ cup packed brown sugar
  • ½ tsp onion powder
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp freshly-ground black pepper
  • 2 tsp kosher salt

Instructions 

  • Combine all the ingredients above in a medium-sized sauce pot and whisk to fully incorporate the ingredients.
  • Turn heat to medium and bring to a simmer.
  • Reduce heat to low and cook for 10 minutes.
  • Remove sauce from heat and cool down at room temperature.
  • If not using immediately, store in the refrigerator until ready for use.

Notes

This sauce will keep great covered in the fridge for a week or two.
