Ingredients

  • 6 lb spiral-cut ham (bone-in)
  • ½ cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup dark brown sugar
  • ¼ cup orange blossom honey
  • ¼ cup cup apple juice (or cider)
  • 1 capful vanilla extract
  • Pinch of ginger powder

Instructions 

  • Set your oven to 325 degrees
  • Spray your roaster with a light layer of cooking spray to make cleanup easier.
  • Prepare the glaze by combining all the ingredients (but the ham) in a small saucepan.
  • Simmer for the glaze gets syrupy (about 7 minutes)
  • Using a pastry brush, apply the glaze to each spiral.
  • Try to reserve about half of it for toward the end of cooking.
  • Place the ham in the roaster and cover it.
  • Cook for 1.5 hours, then uncover
  • Pour the remaining glaze on the ham
  • Cook for another 30 minutes
  • Slice and use the drippings like gravy

Creative Substitutions

  • Replace apple juice with orange, pineapple, mango or cranberry
  • Replace honey with real maple syrup

Notes

Tip: You need about ¾ lb. of ham per person, portion size. Allow for 20 minutes per pound of cooking at 325F. The ham is done when it reaches an internal temperature of 145F
