This popular spicy Asian condiment can be made easily at home! The recipe provided below includes fresh ginger and garlic.
Ingredients
- ½ cup vegetable oil
- ¼ cup dried minced onion
- 2 cloves fresh garlic, finely minced
- ½ Tbsp fresh ginger, finely minced
- 2 tsp granulated white sugar
- 2 tsp kosher salt
- ¼ cup crushed red pepper flakes
- 1 Tbsp crushed Sichuan peppercorns
- 2 Tbsp toasted sesame seeds
- 2 Tbsp sesame oil
Instructions
- Heat dried onion, fresh garlic, fresh ginger, sugar, and salt until the ingredients are barely golden in color.
- Add the crushed red pepper flakes and Sichuan peppercorns and cook for an additional 1 minute.
- Remove from heat and add the toasted sesame seeds.
- When the oil mixture has cooled, add the sesame oil and stir to combine.
- Taste and adjust for salt level, adding more if necessary.
Notes
You can store this in your fridge for at least a week after it is made.
